Queen Ethelburga’s will host a talk from speaker Dick Moore as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Dick will speak to parents, school staff and members of the local community at the session titled ‘Adolescent Mental Health, Learning to Dance in the Rain’ next week regarding practical strategies to build resilience in young adults, so that they can better navigate life’s challenges and work towards individual success.

He has extensive experience of boarding schools having been an English teacher, rugby coach and housemaster, as well as a headmaster of a co-educational boarding school for over twenty years. Personal circumstances saw him develop an interest in adolescent development and emotional wellbeing, qualifying as a youth mental health first aid instructor in 2012 and becoming an associate trainer for the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust in 2013.

Steven Jandrell, principal of Queen Ethelburga’s, said: “We see our role in supporting our students mental health and wellbeing as central to their educational journey here at Queen Ethelberga’s. The best way to do this is as a community – staff, parents and students together. We are entering into a busy and what can be a stressful time of year for any student, as they work to achieve their best in end of year exams. This session is a timely reminder for us to continue to have as much focus on their wellbeing and building their individual resilience, so that they can achieve their goals.”
