Queen Margaret's School Election DebateAhead of a Mock School Election next Thursday, Queen Margaret’s School had their very own political debate in assembly.

Three girls from Year IV and two girls from Year III were allocated a political party at random and asked to put forward their party’s policies with conviction to the whole School. Something which is not that easy, especially for the girls who may have been allocated parties whose policies are far away from their own beliefs.

Like some of the television debates, the girls were all given one minute for their opening speeches. These were followed by a question and answer session on some of the major issues around this election including the economy, environment, devolution and there was also a question around independent schools’ charitable status. The candidates then gave their closing speeches.

We were very fortunate to welcome our current MP for the Selby and Ainsty Constituency, Nigel Adams, to the assembly who congratulated the girls on their preparation, research and strong delivery.
