A Queen Margaret’s School sixth former has given her Winter Olympics dreams hope with impressive recent results.

Imogen Smith finished fourth and seventh at the Women’s Audi Ski Cross Tour event in Lenk, Switzerland last month, competing against skiers from across the world.

The 17 year old has trained in France, Norway and at the Snozone in Castleford this year and keeps fit at Queen Margaret’s by participating in athletics, netball, tennis and specialist fitness sessions with the school’s personal trainer.

Imogen, who is studying A Levels in biology, chemistry and physical education, said that she was happy with her current progress: “I love all sports but ski cross is definitely my favourite. It’s exciting, fast-paced and exhilarating. You don’t know what is going to happen right up until you cross the finish line.”

Anne Davies, Queen Margaret’s director of sport, agreed that Imogen will go far: “Her sheer grit and determination will see her through. This month’s competition has taken her success to the next level. I’ve seen first-hand just how hard Imogen works at her sport and her fourth and seventh placings alongside older and more experienced skiers are extremely well deserved.”
