A special assembly was held on Wednesday 6th February to celebrate the Chinese New Year, in which the Senior Queens College Chinese New YearSchool learnt some Chinese phrases, discovered how the festival is celebrated around Asia and found out about some traditions surrounding the Year of the Snake.

The whole school was treated to some delicious Chinese food for lunch in honour of the occasion.

Additionally, the EAL department organised a special meal in Wellington to celebrate the festival, which over eighty students attended on Sunday 3rd February, and set up a Red Pocket Treasure Hunt around school for the pupils to win prizes.

The Red Pockets, which usually contain money, are gifts traditionally given at special occasions in China and Asia.
