On Wednesday 7th February, Years 11, 12 and 13 pupils at Queen's College celebrated its seventh World AIMS  Queens College AIMS Cultural EveningCultural Evening.

Having in the past travelled around the world to different continents including South America, Africa, Europe and Asia, this year the students got a taste of North American culture.

The students and staff pulled out all the stops with their costumes and many fully embraced the Hollywood element of North America – there were appearances from the A-Team, the Scooby-Doo Mystery Gang, Grease's Pink Ladies, Dorothy and Toto, Woody and Buzz Lightyear, and some very blue avatars!

On a wider American theme, there were also a number of cowboys, superheroes, a summer camper, Milhouse from The Simpsons, and even a Statue of Liberty in attendance.

The evening was full of entertainment, organised by World AIMS sixth-formers. A quiz on North American culture kicked off the event, with sets from Elvis and his live band interspersing the rounds.

Later on, there was a wide selection of American food available for all to snack on, followed by American music from a bluegrass band which got everyone on their feet!

At the end of the evening, Oscars were presented to the best dressed students and the most knowledgeable quiz team won a prize. As always, this event is one that brings students together and gets them thinking about and involved with World AIMS.

Oscars for costumes went to:

Best dressed girl – Flora Whitmarsh (Lara Croft)
Best dressed boy – Ieuan Jones (The Joker)
Best dressed teacher – Mr Burrows (The Incredible Hulk)
Best dressed couple – Ollie Lintott and Hannah McLeod (Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange)
Best dressed group – Chris Ajmaya, Julius Ekert, Patrick Thorpe and Carwyn Hong-Eveleigh (the A-Team)
