Queen's College Junior School pupils enjoyed "A Taste of Dahl" on Tuesday, when Anthony Pedley brought his Queens College Roald Dahlone-man show to the Birchall Hall.

The Junior School has chosen Roald Dahl as the theme of this year's World Book Day on 7th March to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Dahl's first published book, The Gremlins, so the "Taste of Dahl" show really kicked off the excitement surrounding World Book Day for the Queen's pupils.

"A Taste of Dahl" introduced the children to Dahl's writing and reflected the nature of his work – at times serious, at times great fun!

Anthony Pedley, who has performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company and has appeared in a variety of films, productions and radio broadcasts, portrayed Dahl and used words from his autobiography to show how Dahl's early life influenced his writing and where his ideas may have come from.

The play demonstrated how certain themes recur throughout Dahl's work, for example, a belief in fairness and the satisfying triumph of the underdog.

The Queen's children in Years 3 to 6 were treated to excerpts from popular Roald Dahl books such as The BFG, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, among others, and went home with their imaginations full of exciting ideas and a desire to read all of Dahl's famous works!
