The children at Queen's College Junior School enjoyed an action-packed 'Climate Change' themed day at the Queens College Science Daybeginning of February. The whole day was dedicated entirely to Science and the young scientists embarked on a wide variety of activities throughout the day.

All of the Years 2 to 6 children experienced a session in the 'Bio-Dome', where activities ranged from learning about the biodiversity of different ecosystems and endangered species to the carbon cycle and Earth's climate control system.

Weather system studies were conducted with Mr Owen who thankfully managed to avoid setting off the fire alarm when using the smoke machine!

Experiments based on ocean acidification, the melting of the polar ice-caps and the heating up of the Earth took place and the children enjoyed the 'hands on' approach of the day.

The Senior School Biology department kindly ran a session for the Year 6 pupils, where they studied Daphnia heart rates under different environmental conditions.

They also observed the behaviour of woodlice, racing them to see whether a warmer woodlouse ran faster than a colder one!

Everyone had a fun science-filled day, but importantly the children are now more aware of the reasons why scientists believe our weather is changing and the need for all of us to protect planet Earth.
