The Queen’s College equestrian teams were on top form again over the half term break and rode to victory qualifying Queens Collegefor two classes of Arena Eventing “Jumping with Style” at the National Schools Equestrian Association championships which will be held in Addington on 25th to 27th October 2013.

The qualifying rounds took place on 30th May at Pontispool Equine Sports Centre in Taunton. Queen’s College pupils Kate Shapland, Harrison Oakley, Georgina Ewell and Henrietta Ewell competed as a team to win the 90-95cm Intermediate class.

Queen’s College was the only team out of 12 to have all four riders clear on a stiff course.

Henrietta jumped a stunning round on her 13hh five-year-old pony achieving the third best style marks (3.5). Individually, Georgina came sixth out of 64 starters.

The 1-1.10m Open class team, made up of Megan Gibbins, Kate Shapland, Harrison Oakley and Georgina Ewell, qualified for the national championships after achieving second place on a very technical track.

Georgina rode first in the team and rode one of the rare clear rounds, inspiring her fellow team mates on the tough course.

Kate followed, slipping at a corner, but finished a lovely round with only four faults. Harrison also had a run out at the same point of the course but ended a neat round with four faults.

This latest success follows a victory at the Stonar Inter-Schools One Day Event Championship in May – one of the major schools riding events in the UK – where the team came first out of 17 teams from schools from all over England and finished an outstanding nine points ahead of their competitors.

Said Queen’s College Headmaster, Chris Alcock, “Queen’s is really riding high at the moment with some of the top riders in the country. We are extremely proud of the success of our pupils and look forward to more young people competing at national and perhaps Olympic level in the future.”
