Queen’s College is once again basking in sporting success following 13-year old pupil, Tom Stevenson’s selection into the UK Lions hockey team.

Tom is an avid hockey enthusiast and earned his selection as a result of his brilliant performance at the weekend while playing with the West Panthers Under 13 team at the UK Festival of Hockey in Nottingham. Tom scored during the match to keep the score level at 2-2 – with the match then being decided with a penalty flick shootout.

Tom held his nerve to convert his flick – which, although not being quite enough to save the Panthers from narrow defeat, earned Tom the distinction of Players Player of the Tournament for his impressive scoring, passing and possession.

Tom comes from a very sporty family is a former England Under 21 Indoor and National League player – and his brother Ben plays in the Under 15 England squad. Tom explained that the secret of his success is staying positive in the face of adversity, holding his nerve and never giving in. He intends to keep playing and improving and hopes one day to play for England.

Tom Stevenson is the third Queen’s player to have been selected for the UK Lions after Elliott Trotman – and Patrick Free, who now plays for the England under 16s. Patrick was also in action last weekend at Moulton College, an England Under 16 training camp. Following further team selection, Patrick has another training day on the 21st June at Repton School, where a team will be selected to play a series of matches against Scotland Under 16s in Edinburgh on the 27-29 June.
