Headmaster Roland Martin has just returned to Rendcomb from The Society of Heads’ conference in South Wales where the theme of the three-day forum was ‘Free to Innovate and Inspired to Care’.

Headmasters and Headmistresses from leading Independent Schools across the country met to challenge and debate important educational issues and to listen to leading speakers both from within and beyond the field of education.

Key note speakers were Tony Little, Headmaster of Eton College; Gilbert Mane, Headmaster of John Colet School, Sydney Australia; Dr Nick Baylis, Consultant Well-Being Psychologist, Therapist and Performance Coach and Tim Munden, Senior Vice President HR, Unilever.

The conference witnessed the launch of a new committee for The Society, ‘The Futures Group’. Chaired by Rendcomb’s Headmaster, this group of Headteachers bringing with them a variety of experiences, has been tasked by Chair, David Boddy with ‘coming together to think alternatively; to think about the real future of education and the structures that are needed to deliver it’.

On Monday, Roland Martin joined Barnaby Lennon (former Headmaster of Harrow School and Chair of the Independent Schools’ Council) and Sarah Evans (retiring Headmistress of King Edward VI School, Birmingham and Chair of the Independent Schools Teacher Induction Panel) on the podium to respond to David Boddy’s opening address to the conference and take questions from the floor, which included The Society’s guest of honour, HRH The Princess Royal.
