Repton School’s boys’ football team have been crowned national champions after winning the ESFA Cup.

The team defeated Millfield School 2-1 at Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium, with Jake (5C) putting the Derbyshire-based school ahead before half time. Tom (L6S) extended the lead and despite conceding with three minutes left, Repton held on to become the National Schools Football champions.

Matthew Carrington, head of football at Repton, commented: “To rise to the occasion with such a performance against top opposition on a sweltering day was fantastic. The players deserve all the plaudits they receive. A remarkable team – every player will appreciate and remember being part of this group for a long, long time.”

The cup win caps a successful season for first team, who were also crowned the inaugural Hudl Independent School League champions and winners of the ISFA Barry Burns Northern Eights competition.
