FROM CHEMICAL ENGINEERING TO CLASSICS, FUTURES ARE ASSURED.

Exceptional A and AS level results this year at the Royal High School, Bath mark an even greater improvement on last year’s successes and mirror the recent achievements of its IB students.

With well over 50% of grades at A*/A and 75% of girls going to their chosen universities, The Royal High Sixth Form College is celebrating. Over 70% of candidates in Art achieved A* and all candidates in Design Technology achieved A* grades at A level and A at AS level. In English, 80% achieved A*/A and in Mathematics A*/A grades were achieved by 75% of the girls.

A delighted Jess Herman achieved 3 A* grades in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics and is off to study Chemical Engineering at Birmingham University. Also a talented musician, having already produced her own CD, Jess is following in the footsteps of many successful scientists who mix music with science (think Professor Brian Cox…)

“Jess is wonderfully talented and reflects the passion girls have for Sciences within the Sixth Form College and the expertise we have in delivering an inspiring and rewarding curriculum. She has enjoyed exploring nuclear and particle physics, thermodynamics, quantum phenomena and engineering mechanics and we are thrilled that she is using her knowledge in the field of Chemical Engineering,” says Director of College, Andrew Melton.

Two girls, Betsy Jones and Molly Seymour will be going up to Cambridge. Molly with A* in Geography, A in History and A in Psychology to read Archaeology and Anthropology and Betsy to read Classics with an A* in Latin, A in French, A in History and A at AS level in Greek.

Also a gifted scientist, Michelle Lee achieved 3 A* and an A, in Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics respectively; Lucy Walton achieved A* in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics with an A in French and will be studying Physics and Philosophy at Kings College, London and Josie Reining will be starting her Architecture degree at Nottingham University following her A* in Design Technology, A* in English and A in History.

“The results speak for themselves and our students have once again proved their outstanding abilities”, said the Head, Rebecca Dougall, “but it is also really rewarding to see the breadth of both traditional and non-traditional degree subjects being embarked upon this year. From Chemical Engineering to Classics with everything from Archaeology, Anthropology, Linguistics, Film and Physics and Philosophy in between, we can demonstrate that girls here have the talent and determination to excel across the academic spectrum. We are incredibly proud of them all and wish them well on the adventure that lies ahead.”
