When looking to create and cast a unique drama piece for the BathLitFest this March, the renowned writer and Royal High School Bathdirector, Marilyn Imrie needed to look no further than our girls.

Marilyn’s vision was to re-create the memorable trial scene from one of the world’s best-loved novels, To Kill a Mockingbird, to be performed on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th March in the ‘courtroom’ in the Guildhall so she enlisted the help of Ben Pender Head of Drama .

We put forward three likely candidates in February, Marilyn came in and auditioned them and was so impressed that she chose to cast all three girls, Alice Spratt, Megan Allan and Ellie Mackenzie in the lead role of Scout.

The sell-out performance, a rehearsed reading of the trial scene at its centre, staged in our very own court room in Bath’s Guildhall, was narrated by Dame Harriet Walter, with the celebrated American actor Guy Paul as Atticus Finch.

Our girls were joined by other students from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and the amazing black gospel choir Nitrovox.
