Six boys from the Royal Hospital School, Suffolk, ran 7.5km through the School’s 200 acre site in aid of Cancer Research UK.
The sponsored run was the idea of Nick Sims (12), a boarder in Year 8, who lost his mother to cancer 2 years ago today. He really wanted to do something to mark the anniversary and was joined by Tom Ponsonby (12) who also lost his father to cancer 2 years ago, Adam Warren (13), Conor Davies (13), Zac Frankham (13) and Tolly Young (12), all of whom have had family or friends affected by the disease.
The boys planned their route, canvassed support and customised T-shirts prior to the event. They also managed to gain permission to miss prep on this one occasion from the Assistant Head (Academic) – which is no mean feat! They set off from their Boarding House at 4.15pm, cheered on by friends, on Wednesday 15 January. All of them completed the course within their 30 minute target, raising in the region of £500 to date. Pledges and donations continue to flood in as pupils, staff and parents at the Royal Hospital School hear about the boys’ achievement and dedication to such a personal cause.
