Inspired by the Tower of London’s Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red display of ceramic poppies, pupils, parents and staff from RMS have created their own River of Red in the School Chapel. They have made hundreds of poppies from paper, cardboard, wool, cloth and other materials; and the poppies have been combined into a magnificent flowing design across the altar as a startling reminder of what Remembrance Day is all about.
The whole school community has been involved in the project, from the youngest children in Ruspini House Pre School, through Cadogan House Prep Department and the Senior School to the Sixth Form; and staff members, parents and governors have also all participated.
The School Chaplain, the Rev’d John Quill, says “I’m really proud of the way everyone has rallied round this project to create our own River of Red. It will stay in the Chapel until Christmas as a reminder of Remembrance Day and the wars that the day recollects; and as a link between war as a measure of the worst of human nature, and Christmas that celebrates healing and redemption.”
