Rydal penrhosGCSE resultsYear 11 pupils are celebrating excellent GCSE results again – 22% of the candidates scored at least 7 A* and A grades each, and 82% achieved at least 5 good passes at A*-C. The school accomplished a 100% pass rate again, and many pupils exceeded their expectations with their results.

The school also runs a one-year GCSE programme as preparation for the Sixth form, and a number of pupils did extremely well bearing in mind they completed full GCSE courses in half the time normally allocated. Cyd Cowley scored all A*s, and Lara Roth achieved 3 A*s and 2 As.

Glen Davies, Robert Warrington, Eve Davies and John Marston scored all A* and A grades. Dylan Coombes, Hannah Patrick, Gabriel McCluskey, Benjamin Roche, Georgina Pullman, Alex Azurza and Nicholas Widdowson all achieved an average of 7 or more, equivalent to 9 A grades, and scored a total of 26 A*s between them.

100% A*-C was achieved in a number of subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Latin, Music, Chinese, German (1st language), Spanish and Welsh (2nd language).

Patrick Lee-Browne, the Headmaster, commented: "National pass rates throughout the grade range have declined for the second year running, but our candidates have improved on the performance of last year’s cohort at A* and A*-C, and their results are well above the national averages across the board. There were very many relieved and satisfied pupils at school to collect their results, and they and their families should feel really proud of the effort that they put into their exams. There is a short window of further relaxation and reflection before they move on to the Sixth form at the start of September, and I am sure that these results will give them the confidence to start their courses positively and enthusiastically."
