A Sixth Form pupil at Rydal Penrhos has successfully completed the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.

Head Boy Nick Fiorita managed to secure the distinction under the guidance of programme co-ordinator Dr Jim Lewis to ensure he adds his name to the long list of success stories emanating from Rydal Penrhos.

In order to achieve the award, he took part in expeditions under testing conditions along with other candidates, and he will now attend a ceremony at a royal venue next year to receive his award.

This success follows on from that achieved by recently departed Year 13 pupils Jenny Johnson and Sara Owen, who both managed to achieve the milestone earlier this year.

Deputy Head Tim Cashell, said: “Nick has been a model pupil for more than a decade here at Rydal Penrhos, and for him to achieve his Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award despite having so much going on in his role as Head Boys is a truly incredible achievement.

“He is a fantastic role model for younger members of the school community, is constantly looking to better himself and he really is a credit to himself, his family and everyone at Rydal Penrhos.”
