Four Lower Sixth pupils from Rydal Penrhos School visited the Bank of England last week to take part in an Rydal Penrhos Bank of EnglandInflation Report meeting.

This opportunity follows on from the success last November of a group of Rydal Penrhos Economics pupils in Target Two Point Zero – The Bank of England and The Times Interest Rate Challenge.

This competition encourages pupils aged 16 to 18 to take on the role of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee to examine the current economic climate and assess the outlook for inflation.

Business Studies and Economics are two of the most popular choices for pupils at GCSE and A-level or IB at Rydal Penrhos School.

The aims and influence of the department stretch far beyond the classroom, and this trip was just one of the many visits to different companies, university lectures, market research projects and school-based business activities that are used by the school to complement the curriculum.

The visit to the Bank of England was organised by Old Rydalian, Babak Emamian. It allowed the pupils to meet top industrialists and leading bankers, and provided insights into current hot topics including unemployment, inflation targets and low consumer confidence.

This ambitious group also received some good advice from Mr Emamian about the importance of dedication, perseverance and interpersonal skills in all aspects of business life.
