Jordon Tam, a Sixth-form pupil from Rydal Penrhos School, won another medal at the Fencing British Youth Rydal PenrhosChampionship Finals held at the EIS Sheffield on 4-6 May. Jordon ended the event ranked number 5 in the UK.

This is a great achievement – although a disappointment for Jordon as he won all five of his matches in the first round and held the number 1 spot, out of 64 competitors, before the elimination rounds started.

Jordon Tam, 17, from Hong Kong is a boarding pupil at Rydal Penrhos and a seasoned International competitor who has fenced in competitions in Hong Kong, Beijing and Japan.

He began fencing at the age of ten and now practises six days a week to compete at this very high level. He is currently coached in the UK by Valeriys Shchipanovs, at school and in Chester.

Jordon’s next matches will be next season after a summer of coaching back home in the New Territories. His coach, Frankie, lives on Hong Kong Island and Jordon will travel to train with him regularly.

In the meantime it is back to studying and examinations for Jordon as he is about to take AS levels in Maths, Further Maths, Business Studies and Chinese, which prevents him from competing in the next two British fencing competitions.
