A down-and-out Skid Row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a Rydal Penrhos Little shop of Horrorsmysterious craving for fresh blood.

This is the unlikely plot line for a ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, performed by the Rydal Penrhos Dramatic Society in a fantastic production at Rydal Penrhos School last week.

More than 150 children from local primary schools came to watch the show at a schools’ matinee last Tuesday, followed by evening performances for the rest of the week.

Enthusiastic audiences were treated to a superb standard of acting and singing from the lead parts in this show, notably Glen Davies as Seymour the gauche floral assistant, Matthew Grosart as the shop owner, Emily Harrison as Audrey, and Will Murphy as the truly nightmarish dentist.

Mention must also be made of the off-stage voice of Jack Braund, who gave the man-eating plant a Southern American drawl, redolent of Barry White!

This school production was a truly collaborative effort: the actors and musicians were ably supported by a stage team who organised the set changes smoothly and effectively.

Glen Davies and another Year 11 pupil, Nico Widdowson, arranged the musical score of the show for the Jazz Band. Under the direction of Director of Music, Julian Whittaker, the music was one of the highlights of a truly spectacular evening of drama.
