Rydal Penrhos Pre-Prep pupils enjoyed an exciting afternoon reliving the age of chivalry as medieval knights from The Knight Shop in Conwy visited the pupils to bring to life the tales of historic battles.
Equipped with armour and weaponry from the early medieval up to Tudor times, the ‘knights’ showed them how helmets developed over the years to protect more and more of the head and how the various weapons were used. They were also taught how to use a shield and were shown some basic swordplay before the knights treated them to a display of sword fighting.
Under careful supervision the pupils had the opportunity to lift some of the authentic swords and were amazed at how long and heavy they were. They also had the chance to try on all the different helmets including an exact replica of the one worn by King Henry VIII.
It was a truly fascinating visit, thoroughly enjoyed by all the children with one Year 2 pupil speaking for many when she said, “That was so much fun, I can’t wait to see the knights again!”
