A pupil from Rydal Penrhos Prep has earned a black belt in karate.

Nathan Richards was awarded the honour following his 1st Dan grading last month, coming away with a distinction.

A spokesman from the Adrian Wright’s Martial Arts Academy said: “Nathan has shown himself to be a person of outstanding character and has met all the requirements of high proficiency in prescribed techniques during his examination.”

He aims to progress through the various black belt levels to enhance his knowledge of the discipline.

Alison Hind, deputy head at the Nursery and Prep School, said: “To achieve such an honour despite being just nine-years-old is an absolutely staggering achievement, and one that Nathan should be enormously proud of.

“He is a highly motivated young man who has shown a tremendous dedication to achieve his overall goal, and everyone at Rydal Penrhos is absolutely thrilled for him.”
