Three Year 10 pupils from Rydal Penrhos School are celebrating after achieving the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Rydal Penrhos bronze award success Award.

Alex Sharples, Sam Merrick and Constance McMahon, all aged 15, began the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award during Year 9 and have fully immersed themselves in the programme.

To earn their Award, the pupils were required to complete a personal programme of activities in four sections; Volunteering, Physical, Skill and Expedition and were required to spend a further three months on one of the sections.

In their quest to complete the Award, the three pupils have been busy trying out a wide range of activities including fishing, yoga and flying.

Following their achievement, Ben Proudlove, Outdoor Education Coordinator and primary manager of the Rydal Penrhos Duke of Edinburgh Operating Authority said, “Through commitment, organisation and importantly effective administration skills, Alex, Sam and Constance have completed the Bronze and can now move on to their Silver Award.”

Rydal Penrhos School has a long running history of Outdoor Education, thanks in part to the School’s location close to the Snowdonia National Park, as well as its walking distance from the sea.

The Duke of Edinburgh programme is popular with pupils who can work towards the Bronze, Silver and Gold Award while also improving fitness, developing skills and helping the community.
