Rydal Penrhos Sailors Six young sailors from Rydal Penrhos School recently made the long journey to the Olympic sailing venue in Weymouth to compete in the RS Tera Nationals.

Under the watchful eye of coaches Max Todd and Andy Bale, the school sailors were part of a fleet of 98 boats that took to the water in Weymouth harbour in near-perfect conditions.

The first day kept the sailors on the water for seven hours, completing five races in total.

Sunday was more testing with fickle winds and only two further races were completed in six hours.

Daisy Lee-Browne, Ewan Luke, Caitlin Teece, Henry Noad and Amy Bale all performed superbly, but special mention must go to Tom Bale for his 20th place overall.

However results were less important than the opportunities on offer at such a prestigious venue, and in such a big fleet.

Such a large regatta requires sailing skill and immense stamina both on and off the water, and the event provided a great learning opportunity for the junior squad.

The sailors and all their supporters made the most of the amazing facilities at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, and are now looking forward to the Rydal Penrhos Regatta which will take place in Colwyn Bay.
