Rydal Penhros Prep School enjoying olympic games tea partyPupils at Rydal Penrhos Prep School enjoyed a day of celebration on Tuesday 29 May as they took part in an Olympic Games and a Jubilee Tea Party.

An action-packed morning began with pupils getting creative, designing their own crown colourful crowns to wear during the Jubilee tea party. Each pupil paid £1 to make their crowns, with the money raised donated to St David’s Hospice.

After joining the celebrations as the Olympic Torch relay travelled down Conwy Road, Colwyn Bay, pupils took part in the Rydal Penrhos Prep School Olympic Games.

Representing fifteen countries including Spain, Brazil, Germany, China and of course Great Britain an opening procession took place before the children began their first events. Pupils took part in events with their country team mates, which included children from each year of the School from Reception (age 4) through to Year 6 (age 11) with the Early Years class (children from 2½-4) working together to represent Australia. Fifteen different activities took place throughout the course of the afternoon including welly throwing, hoopla, skittles, name the flags, building the longest paper chain and penalty shots. An exciting and competitive Olympic Games came to an end with the bronze medal awarded to Japan, silver to Russia and the Gold medal to Canada.

To complete an eventful day, an Afternoon Tea was held in the glorious sunshine in the playground with bunting and balloons and crowns at the ready to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee. Parents and pupils enjoyed the fantastic selection of sandwiches and cakes before heading home after an action-packed day.
