Rydal Penrhos Dramatic Society performing the playRydal Penrhos Dramatic Society transformed the school’s memorial hall into the world of Shakespeare as they performed A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Given a modern twist and performed in-the-round, the audience were enthralled with the fast-paced and energetic play which included a cast of 30 pupils ranging from 11 to 18 years old, wearing costumes supplied by The Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.

The Rydal Penrhos Dramatic Society chose to stage A Midsummer Night’s Dream as the School’s contribution to the World Shakespeare Festival, which forms part of the cultural events taking place surrounding the London Olympic Games. From April there will be performances, exhibitions and events across the country to celebrate Shakespeare as a world dramatist.

Surprisingly, despite a long history of drama at the school, this was only the ninth time a Shakespeare play had been performed by the Society since it was established in 1887.

To celebrate the success of their magnificent production, the Rydal Penrhos Dramatic Society will be heading to New York over the Easter holidays to sightsee and to watch Broadway shows.
