A TV presenter and scientist recently gave an inspirational talk at Prior’s Field.

Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock MBE spoke at the school’s annual Julia Huxley lecture to 300 members of the community. Her speech entitled ‘Reach for the Stars’ detailed her journey towards success on-screen and in the scientific world, despite facing multiple challenges including 13 school changes, dyslexia and gender stereotypes in her field. She called on the audience to “desire to aspire and reach for the stars, whatever your stars might be”, echoing the school’s own mantra.

Tracy Kirnig, head at Prior’s Field, commented: “Having just completed our fabulous new science block, what better role model could we present to our budding female scientists?  Dr Aderin-Pocock engaged each and every one of us with her talk about her challenging route to success, the wonder of science which inspired her and highlights of her career with NASA, the Gemini Telescope and more recently the children’s show ‘Clangers’.”
