Our 2016 Wilson run championsWhat a week it has been at Sedbergh School! Our Wilson Run, now in its 133th year, took place in near perfect conditions. I’m delighted to report that the current record was broken by our current Head of School, Johnny Campbell who took 2 seconds off the previous record. The record has only been broken on a few occasions so this is a fabulous achievement. Phoebe Whatoff was the first girl home and she came in an impressive 14th. Many congratulations to all those who took part, you are all fantastic Sedberghians! This year saw a record 167 participants and as always the evening was rounded off with a spectacular concert with many musical highlights in Powell Hall.

The other big sporting news this week is that yesterday our U15 rugby team beat Wellington College in the Natwest Schools Cup at the home of British rugby, Twickenham stadium, in London. At the start of the competition there were over 500 schools which entered and Sedbergh had to win all of their matches to make it to the final at Twickenham, which they did with ease. Sedbergh’s skill continued to the end, with a convincing victory against Wellington with a final score of 24-17 in a very closely contested match. Around 200 Sedbergh pupils travelled down to cheer them on, we could practically hear them in Sedbergh!  Truly a remarkable achievement for these young Sedberghians and what an amazing experience for them. Our U15 national champion team

Lastly, many of you will know about Sedbergh’s Masterchef competition, now in its fourth year. Each House chose a winner and the Grand Final was held earlier this week at the Headmaster’s home where a panel of judges was treated to an eighteen (!!) course tasting dinner with Conner Scrivens and Ewan Page from Sedgwick House being judged to be the winners. They prepared for the panel of twelve diners an interesting menu of cockle and mussel popcorn, pig cheek and chorizo followed by burnt cream Seville citrus peel scented with brandy and raspberries. I am sure you’ll agree this is an innovative and mouth-watering menu. Worthy winners of this year’s Masterchef title, indeed.Kitchen prep- Master Chefs
