Shakespearean Ice Cream Wars

Year 6 pupils at Rydal Penrhos Prep School gave two stunning performances of Romeo and Juliet last week. With the rival Capulet and Montague families operating from their respective ice-cream parlours – pistachio for the Montagues and caramel for the Capulets – these were the ice-cream wars,Shakespearean style.

The audience was held spell-bound as the story of rivalry, love and death unfolded before them. With the action mostly taking place on the School Hall floor, rather than the stage, the deaths of Tybalt and Mercutio – played with great swagger by Michael Thomas and Eddie Farrell – had real impact. With beautiful singing from both Zahra Shamsi and Scarlett Spillane in the title roles, and a fantastic supporting cast, this was a production not to be missed.
