On the evening of Friday 7th December Shebbear College Senior School pupils Abby Selwyn and Isaac Allsopp were Shebbear college CATSinvited to an awards ceremony held at Holsworthy Memorial Hall by an organisation called CATS – Community Action Through Sport.

Their aim is to promote, recognise and reward young people for positive community action with sports awards, helping to make people aware that the younger generation are willing to give up their own time to help others. CATS UK staff and co-founder Denise May MBE were in attendance to experience the wonderful evening.

Abby and Isaac were both in the section for the wider community, for young people who are being recognised to have taken part in or created projects outside of school.

Projects included helping to run youth clubs and activities, volunteering to marshal community events and holding friendship teas with older people.

Abby was nominated by her guide leader for giving up her free time to help as a young guide leader and Isaac was nominated for the help he gives at his local church. They were both awarded a certificate and a sports voucher of their choice for a range of activities.

It was an inspiring evening to see all these local young people collecting their awards and giving them the recognition and encouragement to continue their good work.
