Shebbear College solar panelsThe summer break provides an ideal opportunity to improve and continue the development of the Shebbear College campus. We are always chasing some plan or other on the site, indeed it is safe to say that every school break sees an increase in activity for our Estates Team as they move in to 'projecting mode'. It isn’t just about decorating the place, the main focus being on improvements to the 'teaching platform'.

This summer sees the normal frantic activity across the campus on a whole range of improvements and general maintenance tasks. The most notable of these are the addition of a sizeable 50kw solar array, a new state of the art biology lab and preparation towards the installation of our 200kw biomass plant which will also include a sustainability study suite. Plan drawings of the biomass plant are available to view on the ‘sustainability’ page of the school website.

The renewable energy initiatives will not only help to reduce our costs and our carbon footprint, but will be integral to how we are able to educate our pupils in some key issues of our time. Clearly this also feeds in to the Eco Schools work we are committed to.
