Shebbear CollegeShebbear College students have produced a very strong set of GCSE results with over 40% of all grades achieved being A*and A.

Amongst the many impressive achievements were some truly outstanding performances particularly from Emilio Aliberti (8 A*s and 6 As), Julian Blaskiewicz (10A*s and 2As), Jack Honey (5A*s and 7As), Tom Hill (6A*s and 5As), and George Daniel (6A*s and 3As). These boys defied the national trend of falling grades in science by achieving 11A*s and 3As in their respective science GCSE exams.

Other pupils achieving at least eight A*s and As included Emily Dunn, sister of Rob, the outgoing Head Boy, Katie Trask, and county rugby player George Bone. Visitors to the College are usually taken by the high quality of Art produced by the students and this was reflected with the exceptional results scored under the guidance of Ashley Barlow, the Head of Art. The Art department had 100% pass rate from A* to C with sixteen out of the nineteen pupils getting an A* or an A.

Headmaster Simon Weale commented ‘I am very happy with these results. We do not have a selective intake at the College and yet our UK pupils consistently punch above their weight and outperform their contemporaries. There is no doubt that this is down to our excellent teachers and our small class sizes. This also enables our international students to overcome the language barrier to perform very creditably and I should make special mention of Belen Montabes De la Cruz from Madrid who was with us for just one year, but achieved 4A*s and an A in subjects all studied in her second language! More importantly not only do our pupils achieve well academically but they emerge as confident and well-rounded individuals who will succeed in the world outside of school’.

Shebbear College have an Open Week between 7th – 11th October and anyone interested is invited to come and have a look around.
