sibford_school_football_conorSibford School pupil Conor Taylor has been signed by Birmingham City FC to play for the Under 14s in the Midland Junior Premier League.

The 13-year-old attended training sessions in Solihull over the summer and was selected during trials held at Wast Hills, the Birmingham City training ground.

Conor now travels up to the Midlands every Monday and Wednesday evenings for training on the floodlit 3G playing surface at Saltley Leisure Centre.

“I was really surprised when I was told I’d been selected,” said Conor. “I didn’t think I’d have a chance but it’s great to be playing for Birmingham City.”

Sibford School head Michael Goodwin added: “We’re all very proud of Conor and will do all we can to support him.”

Birmingham’s Under 14s got the 2013/14 season off to a flying start. They won all three pre-season friendlies, narrowly lost their first league game 4-5 to last year’s league and cup double winners (after being 4-0 down at half-time), won their second league game 9-1 and their third league game (this weekend) 6-2.

Manager of Birmingham City under 14s is Dennis Bailey. The former Birmingham City and QPR footballer is famed as the last player to score a hat-trick against Manchester United at Old Trafford in a domestic game (1st January 1992).
