2017 ELITE INSURANCE SCHOOLS SEVENS DATES ANNOUNCED

… Sibford to host Oxfordshire tournament

Northampton Saints has announced the dates and venues for the 2017 Elite Insurance Schools Sevens Series.

And Sibford School near Banbury will once again be hosting the Oxfordshire regional tournament as part of its annual Rugby Sevens Festival.

Matt Brock, Head of PE at Sibford School, said: “We are delighted to continue our involvement with Northampton Saints and the Schools Sevens Series and look forward to an exciting tournament on 21 March.”

The Elite Schools Seven Series has become a fixture on the rugby calendar since its inception in 2013 and already nearly 100 schools have signed up to complete in the 2017 event.

“We’re looking forward to the Elite Insurance Sevens Series,” says Saints community coach Will Parkin. “Last year we had over 200 schools take part across the three age groups and hopefully we’ll increase those numbers in 2017, especially with the feel-good factor in Sevens that came off the back of Team GB winning silver in Rio last summer.”

Added Barbara Bock, head of risk, internal audit and brand at Elite Insurance. “This will be the first year that players who played in the first Under-13 Series will be eligible for the Under-18 Series which shows not just that the Elite Insurance Sevens Series has had the long-term impact on Rugby Sevens that we wanted back in 2013, but also how entrenched the sport has come in the East of England.

“We’ve been delighted to see the growth of the Elite Insurance Sevens Series over the years, and we’re looking forward to seeing some more great action in 2017.”

As with the past two years, there will be six regional tournaments for Under 13 boys’ teams. In addition to the Oxfordshire tournament at Sibford School on 21 March, other regional tournaments will take place in Cambridgeshire (1 March); Suffolk (2 March); Northamptonshire (7 March); Milton Keynes (9 March) and Bedfordshire (15 March).

The winners and runners-up of each regional tournament will then head to Franklin’s Gardens for Finals Day on 20th April and the battle to lift the overall trophy.

This spring will also see tournaments for Under-18 boys’ teams to be held in the East Midlands and Eastern Counties, with an Under-15 girls’ tournament being staged after the Easter holidays.

The Sibford School Sevens Festival will feature U12 boys on 14 March; U13 and U15 girls on 16 March; U13 boys in the Elite Schools Sevens on 21 March; U16 and U18 boys on 22 March and U14 and U15 boys on 23 March. All the matches will be officiated by members of the Northampton Saints Community team.
