Sidcot School New HeadteacherSidcot School is celebrating the appointment of Claire Lilley as the new Junior School Head.

The 37-year-old Cambridge graduate first taught at the independent day and boarding school in 1999.

She went on to become Deputy Head of the 105-pupil Nursery and Junior School and has been Acting Head for the past year.

Claire said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to the post and look forward to further enriching the life of Sidcot Junior School.

“Sidcot is a supportive and nurturing environment, with dedicated teachers who are passionate about enabling children to reach their potential.

“We consider all aspects of the child’s development – academic, sporting, creative and emotional in small class sizes with specialist subject teaching, an inspiring forest school initiative and programme of extra-curricular opportunities.

“Although I am not a Quaker, I see how the Quaker ethos contributes something very special to every aspect of life in the Junior School creating confident, caring children who want to make the world a better place.”

“As a working mother of a six year old daughter, I appreciate wraparound care for busy families. Sidcot offers a breakfast club from 8am and post-school activities and supper until 6.00 pm as well as a Holiday Club.

“I am really looking forward to the challenge and rewards of my new role and leading a great team of dedicated and inspiring teachers.”

Claire will be working with the new head of the whole of Sidcot School, Iain Kilpatrick, 44, who moves from Scotland to Somerset to take up his post in August.

Sidcot School is the only Quaker school in the South West and one of only nine in the UK. Quakers share a way of life, not a set of beliefs. They believe in faith into action through peace, equality, simplicity and truth.
