SIDCOT School is launching new school-wide financial assistance from September for Primary aged pupils right up to Sixth Form students.

The Winscombe-based school is holding an open morning on Monday, May 7th for prospective parents to find out more about the scholarships and bursaries.

Up to 50 per cent of the annual day fees will be waived for pupils who excel academically or are especially gifted in the arts or at sport.

There are also Head's Scholarships for candidates who will bring an outstanding all-round contribution to the Sidcot community as well as special International Baccalaureate Scholarships for Year 12 students.

The deadline for all financial assistance applications for September 2012 is May 14.

Successful applicants will be invited to spend time at Sidcot School for tests, with interviews to follow for selected candidates.

The 300-year-old school is celebrating the arrival in August of new Head, Iain Kilpatrick, who swaps central Scotland for Somerset.

Iain, 44, who is Headmaster of Beaconhurst School in Stirlingshire, said: “These ongoing scholarships and bursaries in the Junior, Senior and Sixth Form are an exciting new development for Sidcot.

“Sidcot is a prestigious school with fantastic academic results and in line with the caring equality of the Quaker ethos, and as a registered charity, we are committed to widening pupil access for talented children.

“We want a rich variety of students to enjoy a unique, supportive and progressive educational experience at Sidcot which they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.”

Sidcot is an independent day and boarding school for more than 500 pupils aged three to 18 which offers sixth formers the International Baccalaureate as well as A-levels.

It is one of only seven Quaker schools in the UK and accepts students from all faiths or none.

Iain added: “Demand for boarding within our school has been so strong we are able to expand and provide an opportunity for talented children who live within reach of Sidcot.

“We encourage students to be outward looking and adventurous and we believe learning is a lifelong experience.”

The open morning will be hosted in the Arts Centre between 9.30am and noon with a full tour of the school campus.
