A unique exhibition of artwork from more than 35 schools across the UK opened this week at Sidcot Community Arts Centre. The multi-media exhibition which includes photography, sculpture, film, painting and drawing showcases the work of students alongside their teachers and is a rare opportunity to see how each is influenced and inspired by the other.
Ross Wallis, Sidcot’s Head of Art said: “Like many teachers of art, much of my time is spent nurturing students’ creativity. I am a teacher first and an artist second. We tend to forget that we have a gift in our own right and this unique exhibition is a wonderful way of bringing together the very best of teacher and student art from all over the country.”
The exhibitors are all members of the Independent Schools Art & Design Association (ISADA) and this event is the first time in over five years that work by both students and teachers have been brought together in this way. ISADA also held its annual conference at the Arts Centre where guest speakers included the Turner Prize-winning artist Richard Long, Jim Parkyn from Aardman and Rosemary Colbourn from the Farley Arts Trust. Delegates were also able to make their own pin hole camera with expert Justin Quinnell, and draw from life on Apple iPads with tutoring from Stefan Marjoram.
The Arts Centre, which is based in the grounds of Sidcot School, is hosting the exhibition until Saturday 7th December. Admission to the exhibition is free of charge and doors are open Tuesdays 2pm – 7pm, Thursdays 2pm-6pm and Saturdays 10am – 4pm (last entry 3.30pm).
