Once again St. Francis` College bucks the national trend in Science
Once again the A level results are outstanding with exams passed at A* grade having increased by nearly a quarter over last year to reach three times this year`s national average.
The areas of the sciences and mathematics are not traditionally favoured by girls however, at St. Francis` nearly half of all exams taken were in these fields and 77% were passed at A* or A grade leading to all the candidates for medicine gaining a place at their choice of university including Cambridge.
Across all subjects nearly half of the exams were passed at A* or A grade, 80% of art exams were passed at A* grade. Of the total pass rate of 99.3%, three quarters were at A*, A, or B grade.
The consistent track record of getting girls into their choice of university continues this year.
The Headmistress Mrs Dorothy MacGinty commented on the splendid results saying “with a national decline of girls studying STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) I am absolutely delighted that our girls have, once again, increased their outstanding results in maths and sciences alongside our excellent results in languages, arts and humanities. I congratulate all girls and staff on achieving these superb results”.
