10 year old Briden Whitbread, a pupil at St. John’s-on-the-Hill Chepstow, celebrated success at this year’s St John's on the Hill swimming awardsannual Caldicot Swimming Club awards, winning 7 gold medals and the overall Boys’ 10 year old Champion award.

Briden has been a member of the club since the age of 5 and this year’s success takes his total number of medals to 19 Gold, 2 Silver and 7 Bronze.

Briden’s father, Kevin said, “As parents we are very proud of the effort Briden has put into his swimming as he knows it is a catalyst for the fitness he requires to compete in all the sporting activities he does inside and outside of school.”

Club swimming coach Lorraine Crook commented, “Briden is the latest of a number of St John’s pupils who have trained with Caldicot Swimming Club. He has developed into a good swimmer greatly improving his technical skills and fitness.

We welcome children and adults of all abilities and swimmers can also take part in competitions within the club and outside.

We are delighted that one recent member of the club has moved on to join the Welsh development squad.”

The club is run by volunteer coaches and parents who manage all aspects of the club, providing training in all techniques and styles for adults as well as children.

Club Championships are held at the end of every year, giving all age groups the chance to compete against their friends and the chance to improve on club records and personal bests, with the awards night at the end of January providing a family disco and fun night for all with lots of medals and trophies.
