Pupils at St Leonards Junior School have handed a cheque for more than £4000 over to charity.St Leonards

Children at the St Andrews school raised £4226.89 for CHAS (Children’s Hospice Association Scotland) by staging a fancy dress fun run back in October.

The youngsters swelled their kindly contribution to the charity – which provides hospice services for young people with life-shortening conditions – by donating takings from their annual Christmas Fair.

CHAS volunteer, Liz Rankin received the cheque from some of the pupils at a special assembly.

Sarah Secombes, Regional Fundraising Manager for CHAS, said, "A huge thank you to all the pupils at St Leonards Junior School from everyone at CHAS for their fantastic fundraising.

“This brilliant total raised from the fun run will help us to provide support to over 300 children, young people and their families who use Rachel House, Robin House and CHAS at Home each year, whilst of course ensuring they have lots of fun together."

The Headmaster of St Leonards Junior School, Andrew Donald, added, “I am very pleased with the effort that the pupils put in to raise more than £4000 for such a good cause.

“I am also pleased that the children realise they are helping people who are less fortunate than themselves.”

In the past seven years, children at St Leonards Junior School have raised more than £35,000 for charity.
