The choir of St Leonards-Mayfield School earns another accolade this week when it sings Evensong at Westminster Abbey on Thursday 3rd January.

Mayfield Choir at Westminster AbbeyAs word of the School’s musical reputation has spread, so the invitations to perform at prestigious venues have increased. The performance at Westminster Abbey follows the choir’s appearance earlier in the year at St Paul’s Cathedral in London and, prior to that, at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

On this occasion, the pupils will sing The Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by George Dyson and Mater Ora Filium by Charles Wood, in addition to the Psalms for the day and the responses for the Order of Service.

The School's Director of Music, Peter Collins comments: "No one who has watched the TV documentaries on Westminster Abbey could fail to be moved by the beauty and grandeur of that historic place. We are delighted to have been granted the honour of singing there at the very start of the year.”
