St Mary’s Calne Celebrate Excellent A level Results

St mary's Calne A levelsGirls at leading independent girls’ school St Mary’s Calne are celebrating following their excellent A Level results, with 45% of the year group achieving all A* and A grades.

The impressive results included 7 girls achieving A* grades in three subjects and 12 girls achieving at least 2 A* grades.

29% of all grades were A*, with 100% A*-A grades in Further Maths and Drama. In History 56% of all grades were A* and in English 47% of all grades were A*. 100% A* grades were also achieved in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) examinations.

7 St Mary’s Calne girls secured their places at Oxbridge with some outstanding grades. These include former Head Girl, Georgina Terry from Coulston, Wiltshire, who will be reading English at Keble College, Oxford (following two weeks teaching English in a Cambodian orphanage this summer); Isabella Warner from Draycott Cerne, Wiltshire, who will read Classics at Brasenose College, Oxford, and Holly Armstrong from Devizes, Wiltshire who has won a place at St Hilda’s College Oxford, studying French and Philosophy. Other subjects being read at Oxford include PPE (Politics, Philosophy and Economics) and History.

Some of the top performing girls came to St Mary’s on a Foundation Scholarship – offered to gifted and talented pupils from the state sector. Between them these girls achieved 8 A*s and 4 As. Laura Doel from Chippenham, Wiltshire, achieved all A*s and As and will be reading Social Anthropology at LSE; Alice Pennington from Chippenham has won a place at Cardiff University to read Medicine and Lucy Cross from Exeter has secured a place at Lincoln College, Oxford, to read Civil Engineering. Amy Cooper from Calne, Wiltshire also achieved A* and As across the board and will be studying Creative Writing in Bath, while also working on her own novel!

Meanwhile, fellow St Mary’s Calne students have also won places at prestigious universities including Bristol, Edinburgh, Durham, Leeds, Manchester, King’s College London, LSE, St Andrews, York and Exeter to read subjects including English, Economics, International Relations and French, Geography, Veterinary Science and Medicine. One pupil, Vivian Mu, achieved an impressive 3 A*s and 2 As and will be reading Economics at UCL.

Almost all the girls secured their places at their first choice universities. Headmistress, Dr Felicia Kirk, commented “We are thrilled with the results and I would like to congratulate all the girls. They have all worked extremely hard and I am proud of everything they have achieved. We wish them all the very best with their future studies and careers as they move on from St Mary’s.”

The LVI Form girls delivered the school’s best ever results at AS Level, with 27% achieving A grade scores in all of their subjects. This bodes very well for their A Levels next year.
