This was the first year of the new A* Grade at A Level and 34% of all of the grades achieved by the girls this year were A*s and over 90% of the girls passed their A Levels with at least one A*-A Grade. At GCSE, half of the school’s candidates scored 8 or more A*-A Grades and a third of girls passed all of their GCSEs at A* or A grade.

A number of girls successfully took AS modules a year early, doing particularly well in Mathematics. 4 LVI Form girls sat A Level Mathematics and all achieved A* grades. The girls who sat early GCSEs also did exceptionally well, recording an astonishing 29 out of 31 A* grades in Mathematics, French, Spanish and Chinese.

St Mary’s continued its strong performance at A Level in Mathematics and the Sciences. More than a third of the girls in the year group sat Mathematics A Level, with 90% achieving the top A*-A grade. Nine in ten candidates also achieved an impressive A*-A in Physics. St Mary’s continues to buck the national trend of the dip in pupils taking Science in the Sixth Form, with 37% of the girls taking one or more Science A Levels. This compares to only 7% of comprehensive pupils who take an A Level in one or more of the Sciences and 28% in independent schools.
