On the afternoon of Friday, 21st June, the LIV Form made their annual visit, some might say pilgrimage, to the St Marys CalneInternational Meditation Centre at Heddington, just a short minibus journey from St Mary’s.

We were warmly welcomed by the centre which teaches Buddhist meditation techniques and attracts many Buddhists from around the world.

The girls’ Religious Studies lessons on Buddhism were consolidated and their knowledge of this fascinating faith was further extended as they listened to their resident teacher and were offered the opportunity to engage in meditative exercises.

Unfortunately our usual visit to the beautifully decorated pagoda in the gardens was unable to go ahead due to the maintenance and repair work that is ongoing.

We were delighted, however, to be served a gorgeous tea of home-baked breads and cakes before watching a stimulating recently-discovered documentary from 1957 on Burmese life and Buddhism.

The girls enjoyed themselves immensely, were a credit to the school and departed a great deal more relaxed than they had arrived!
