Pupils from St Mary’s Calne’s renowned Chamber Choir shared the billing with Downton Abbey star Brendan St Marys Calne choirCoyle at a charity Christmas Carol concert in Chelsea on 5th December.

Sixth Formers from the Choir, which has played around the world and made four professional recordings, helped to raise over £15,000 for the Rehabilitation for Addicted Prisoners Trust (RAPt).

The choir performed alongside Brendan Coyle (Mr Bates in Downton) and Silent Witness star Emilia Fox and actors Richard Strange and Bob Kingdom, who all gave readings at the service at Chelsea Old Church on The Embankment.

The girls sang Malcolm Archer’s The Angel’s Danced and Benjamin Britten’s This Little Babe from a Ceremony of Carols, accompanied by Martin Ford, Assistant Organist of Westminster Abbey.

They were also in the illustrious musical company of pianist Lucy Parham, the Raven String Trio and a Brass ensemble from the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Head Dr Helen Wright said: ‘It was a magical evening in aid of a fantastic cause which does an incredible job working with offenders on their addictions which in turn helps to cut the rate of re-offending.

‘I am delighted that our Chamber Choir was able to lead such a worthwhile event and it shows just how important music can be in reaching out and helping other communities.’
