Cambridge-based painter, Sue Rapley, returned to her old school this week – St Mary’s Junior School – for a one-day exhibition. The exhibition held at the leading all girls’ schoolin Cambridge on Thursday 29 November showcased her work, alongside a display of St Mary’s Art Scholars’ own creations.

Sue, a member of Cambridge Open Studios said: ‘I was absolutely thrilled to receive the invitation from such a talented group of budding artists. From an early age, creativity and the arts have always played an important part in my life and I think it’s fantastic to be able to talk to the girls about my experiences as an artist along with my fond memories of being a student at St Mary’s.’

Christepher Hald, Head of Juniors, said: ‘The girls were very excited when they discovered that such an inspiring artist once went to the same school as they attend now. We were delighted that Sue accepted our invitation to display her work alongside our own Scholars and the girls have very much enjoyed learning all they can about different techniques and styles to assist them in their future pieces’.

St Mary’s Junior School recently opened a new home for pupils in Reception to Year 2 meaning that all junior students are now on one site and is the final stage of the relocation of St Mary’s Junior School from Bateman Street to the beautiful buildings and grounds in historic Chaucer Road.
