St Marys Shelia Stuart Angelina Ballerina The Mayor of Cambridge, Sheila Stuart, joined the girls and staff of St Mary's Junior School at the launch of their new pre-prep building in Chaucer Road, Cambridge yesterday (24th October 2012).

The building was officially opened by beloved children’s author and creator of Angelina Ballerina, Katharine Holabird.

The new home for pupils in Reception to Year 2, named the Coach House, means that all junior students will be on one site and is the final stage of the relocation of St Mary’s Junior School from Bateman Street to the beautiful buildings and grounds in historic Chaucer Road.

Katharine Holabird said: “I have really enjoyed my visit to St Mary’s and especially meeting the girls who will be benefitting from the new pre-prep building.

It’s always a pleasure to see Angelina Ballerina brought to life in the imaginations of children of this age and I have enjoyed talking to them about the little mouse and her adventures. I think Angelina would love St Mary's.”

Christepher Hald, newly appointed Head of Juniors, added: “All our girls were excited to meet Katharine Holabird and had fun embracing all things Angelina as part of the celebrations. We are thrilled that the whole Junior School is now reunited on one site and are honoured that Katharine agreed to join us to officially mark the final part of our relocation.”

The Junior School move is part of an exciting development plan for St Mary’s that will see the opening of a state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre at 2 Brookside during 2013.
