Eco fashion show raises money for charity
Students from St Mary’s School, Cambridge, took part in an eco-friendly fashion show this week to raise money for a good cause.

Girls from all years were invited to design, make and show off their creations with the only rule being that the outfits were entirely environmentally friendly. The parade saw dresses made from plastic bags, rail tickets and magazine cuttings, hats made from newspapers, and an entire outfit fashioned from a map of the UK. Prize categories included awards for the most creative and most stylish outfit.

The fashion show forms part of the St Mary’s annual Lourdes Fundraising Fortnight when students organise fundraising activities to support the Glanfield Children’s Group.

St Marys Cambridge, Eco Fashion show model.Headmistress Charlotte Avery said: “It was wonderful to see so many of our students showcasing their artistic flare with such fun and enthusiasm while keeping to the eco-friendly brief. Lourdes Fundraising Fortnight is an eagerly anticipated part of our calendar and always creates excitement and a great deal of fun and laughter around the School. At St Mary’s, we value the importance of being eco-conscious and foster an awareness of global issues”.

The Glanfield Children’s Group takes children with learning difficulties, as well as chronic and terminal illness, to Lourdes each August as part of the Catholic Association Pilgrimage. Many St Mary’s Sixth Formers, staff members and alumnae, annually make the trip to assist with the day-to-day care of the visiting children.
