St Marys School Cambridge Celebrate A level success!University success for Cambridge Girls’ School

St Mary’s School students enjoyed an emotional celebration today as 96 per cent of A-level pupils achieved their first or second choice University place.

Nervous students arrived to collect their results and were soon in high spirits as two thirds of students were awarded their first choice University, with the remainder taking up their second choice. Sabrina Qian was particularly delighted with her four A* grades which secured her a place at St John’s College, Oxford to read Mathematics.

Charlotte Avery, Headmistress and member of the Girls’ Schools Association, explained: “University places are a hot topic this summer with tuition fees rising next year, competition for places is tougher than ever before. Our girls have performed tremendously well and this has been reflected in those applying for a place at University.

“At St Mary’s we support the girls thoroughly with their applications to UCAS. We also have a strong leadership programme, an excellent Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and a range of extra-curricular activities which all help to strengthen our students’ personal statements and put our applicants strongly in the running for the top places.”

More than a third of St Mary’s students received three or more A* – A grades in today’s A-level results with 20 students achieving straight A* – A. 10 per cent of girls received more than three A* grades in all of their A2 subjects. A* grades were awarded for 29.3 per cent of the overall examination grades and a further 30.7 per cent of the results were at A grade.
