St Mary's Calne GCSE Results 2015Girls at leading independent girls’ school St Mary’s Calne are celebrating following their outstanding
GCSE Level results, with over three quarters of all entries graded A*-A and 95% A*-B.

25 girls achieved A*-A grades across all of their subjects, with 100% A*s in Italian and Russian.  Other subjects which saw some very strong results include German and Greek with 100%
A*-A, Latin 96% A*-A, Spanish 93% A*-A, Religious Studies 92% A*-A and over 80% A*-As in Art, Biology, English Literature, French, Geography and History.

Among the girls with exceptional grades were Academic Scholars Hannah McLintock and local girl Yasmin Watling (from Lacock, Wiltshire) – both achieving a full sweep of 11A*s. Hannah was awarded two of her A*s last year (in French and Maths) and Yasmin also gained A*s in Maths and Spanish in 2014. Eliza Perry from Pewsey, Wiltshire (Academic Exhibition holder) is also to be congratulated on receiving a stunning 11 A*s and 1A.

Kitty Bevan (who scored full marks across all her Geography papers), Lily Innes and Academic Scholar Verity Page all scooped top grades, each being awarded 10A*s and 1A (Verity being awarded full marks in 3 out of 4 papers in both of her Greek and Latin exams). Academic Scholars Joyce Lam and Bethany Spinks (who received full marks in RS), along with Rosie Leng (all-round Bodinnar Scholar, who was also awarded full marks in RS) and Alexis Purdy, are all to be congratulated on 9 straight A*s, and additional A grades. Congratulations also to Academic Scholar Iona Westwood, from Bath, who was awarded 8A*s and 1A.

Music Scholars and twins, Jess and Sassie Patel, achieved a fantastic 22 A* and A grades between them!  Both were awarded the highest A* marks in the school in Music – coincidentally achieving the same overall mark in this subject.  The girls are extremely talented musicians who have played in the National Children’s Orchestra of GB (NCO) for six years, from the age of 9-15. This year, they successfully auditioned for the National Children’s Chamber Orchestra of GB (NCCO).The organisation has three separate Chamber Orchestras, which each have only two oboe places available, so gaining oboe places was an excellent feat. Jess and Sassie both have Grade 8 oboe, in addition, this year Sassie passed Grade 8 cello and Jess achieved Grade 7 in piano and singing.

One of the top performing girls came to St Mary’s on a Foundation Scholarship – offered to gifted and talented pupils from the state sector. Eve Webster, from Swindon, Wiltshire, is to be congratulated on achieving 10A*/A grades.

Headmistress, Dr Felicia Kirk, commented, “I am overjoyed for all the girls; they have worked incredibly hard and deserve these outstanding GCSE results.  Each girl has performed to their very best and they have really shone; each and every one of them should feel proud of what they have achieved.  This success is testament to the dedication of all of the teachers here, who encourage and inspire the girls to do their best and of course to the girls themselves, who motivate and support one another so well.
